Office Space Design Trends: Amp Up Your Business!

A Fresh New Look …

2023 Office Space Design Trends - A Fresh New Look for 2022?! ... That would Be Great.

These past few years have been full of changes, in the working world especially. The way we commute, communicate, and even dress for work has changed. So when was the last time you switched up your business or home office’s interior style? Let’s make this the year of “The Great Office Redesign”!

Whether you’re styling for yourself or want to design a workplace for your employees to return to, these top office space design trends will give you the inspiration to make your space stand out.

1. Sustainability – Getting Back to Our Roots

During 2020’s lockdown, a lot of housebound employees took up hobbies like gardening or collecting indoor plants, and that trend hasn’t slowed down! By creating sustainable and biophilic spaces you’re not only giving your space a facelift, but you’re also providing several health benefits to your employees!

Depending on the types of plants you choose, they come with some great health advantages:

  • Reduction of toxins in the air
  • Improved air quality and oxygen
  • Increased productivity
  • Reduction of noise

By making more sustainable design choices, like providing additional natural lighting and incorporating natural elements, your space will appear much bigger and cleaner. Looking into your building’s energy efficiency and using upcycled materials and furniture for a conference room is a way to cut costs and showcase your steps to reducing your carbon footprint in a modern office.

Here are some of the best plants for low-light conditions: (Your desk looks lonely, give them a friend!)

  • Snake Plant
  • ZZ Plant
  • Aloe Vera
  • Spider Plant
  • Peperomia
  • Monstera

2. Smart Technology and Convenience

“Alexa, Fix this spreadsheet, Convert this proposal to a PDF, and while you’re at it, do my taxes!.” Ahhh, If only, right? While we are well on our way to more complex AI automation, we still may have to perform tedious day-to-day functions, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do it in style. Our dependence on technology during the pandemic is fueling the need for even more workforce technology developments.

Applications for contactless processes like Zoom and Google Meet turn any space into a meeting room, while smart speakers like Amazon’s Alexa make scheduling out your calendar reminders a breeze. By switching to convenience tech you’re not only improving productivity but also freeing your workplace from clunky printers and really cheesy motivational desk calendars (though no judgment if those are your jam!). But we no longer have to deal with paper & machine cluttered desks! Now is the time to truly make your space more personalized, like adding framed photos of loved ones and your favorite internet cat.

3. Hybrid and Flexible Working Spaces

The Hybrid and WFH (work from home) working style is here to stay! Flexibility is key for empowering remote workers to work from anywhere while ensuring productivity and engagement throughout working hours. Utilize your space for movement by including “work pods” accompanied by social areas like a coffee bar or lounge area. This provides workers with a handful of settings in which to work, much like the freedom of working at home.

Working from home Full-time? (You lucky ducky 🦆 ) You have full creative freedom here! However, we do recommend keeping it SFW (safe for work). It’s also recommended to create a stylish and professional back wall for the purpose of video conferences. Hang your diploma, motivation posters, and anything else you’re proud of! (Check out our office framing guide here for more inspo!)

4. Neurodiversity Designed Spaces

Did you know that 1 in 7 people are thought to be neurodiverse – but less than 50% know it? Those with ADD/ADHD and Dyslexia as well as those who experience mental health challenges have commonly struggled with environmental factors in the workplace. To allow people to do their best work, we must consider the environment they’re in.

If you find yourself to be easily distracted or unmotivated in your current space – consider designing with a more minimalistic approach. To limit distractions keep desk decorations to a minimum, and keep “loud” or bright colors out of view. Wall colors should remain natural with small pops of color when adding art. Complex patterns like geometric wallpaper should be avoided, but you can still have fun with minimalist artworks!

Make Haste and Transform That Office Space!

There you have it! These office space design trends are not only about keeping things stylish, but also about being a functional, natural, and comfortable space! The perfect office in 2023 should be:

  • Sustainable, adding plants and eco-friendly items where possible.
  • Transformable, where workers can come and go as needed.
  • Tech-savvy, to organize remote teamwork and improve automation.
  • Adaptable, keeping the physical and mental health of employees in mind.
