General Information

  • What materials do you use?

    Wood Frames

    Wood Style Frame

Our Wood style is made from a North American hardwood with a decorative wood pattern wrap. This eco-friendly approach allows us to ship a sturdy, high-quality, consistently colored & patterned natural wood frame.

Our Wood frames are Made in America. US flag

    Metal Frames

    Metal Style Frame

Our styles marked Metal are made out of aluminum through a process called "extrusion". First, an aluminum billet (basically an aluminum log) is heated to almost a thousand degrees and forced (using 750 tons of pressure!) through a die shaped like the style being created. The newly extruded aluminum is then placed on a "stretcher" where all straightness imperfections are removed. Finally, the aluminum is either anodized or powder coated, converting the surface of the material into a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant finish. These frame rails are extremely rigid and high-quality.

    Clear Acrylic

    Clear Acrylic Style Frame

Our ACRYLITE® Clear Acrylic offers the beautiful clarity of the finest picture frame glazing at half the weight of glass and many times the impact resistance. Additionally, it blocks some ultraviolet light. It is the preferred material for larger framed art and provides the safety warranted in high traffic areas. It is the ideal glazing material for museums, galleries, and homes.

    Non-Glare Acrylic

    Non-Glare Acrylic Style Frame

Our ACRYLITE® Non-Glare Acrylic has all of the clarity, impact resistance, and ultraviolet protection of our Clear Acrylic, but with a very fine matted coating which elegantly diffuses light and reduces reflections.

    Matting

    Matting

Our matting is the perfect decorative compliment to just about any frame. We stock tens of thousands of uncut matboards in a variety of colors and cores, and each mat is alkaline-buffered to be acid-neutral, which slows the aging process of the mat as well as the artwork it comes in contact with.

    Acid-Free Foamcore

    Acid-Free Foamcore

This is our premium backing, recommended for important artwork or artwork which will be framed for many years. It is buffered with an alkaline solution, which helps to combat the acids found in most printed artwork and slows down the rate at which the artwork damages itself.

    Prints

Our print lab uses top-of-the-line large format printers and we print using archival-grade ink on premium semi-matte paper (Photo Paper) or a premium, matted, smooth/flat paper (Art Paper) . We use such high quality equipment and materials because we wouldn't feel right about printing your most cherished memories using anything less - your print should be the star of the show in your finished frame. When you see the quality at which we print your uploaded photos and images, we think you'll come back to us again and again.

For our technical customers: we print at up to 1200x1200 DPI and stay as true to your uploaded file as possible. We never resample or perform destructive edits to your image. We maintain the exact profile and colorspace embedded within your file and never remove it or add our own. The only thing we can't do is calibrate our print output to what you see on your display - which means if you're looking for extremely precise color matching on your print output, you'll want to work with a color lab. That being said, we have never heard a complaint regarding color accuracy from our many corporate clients.

    Made in America

All frames are hand-crafted by skilled artisans in our Derby, Connecticut facility using Made in America materials.

  • Can you print my photo?
    Photo Prints

We sure can! If you have us print your photo or image file, we'll professionally print and frame it. Your frame will arrive in just a few days, 100% assembled and ready to hang on the wall - no work on your part besides tapping the (included) hook into the wall. Here's what you do:

    1. Pick a photo from your computer, tablet, or smartphone.

    2. Choose what size you want your photo printed, from a small table-top frame to a large poster.

    3. Pick your favorite of our many frame and matboard styles and colors. You'll see a preview of what your frame will look like.

    4. We'll print your photo in the size you picked using a professional-grade large format printer, and then build the frame you designed to the exact size of the photo. Because we can build any size frame, we don't need to crop any of the detail from your photo.

Each frame is built using 100% premium American-made materials and comes fully assembled with everything you need to hang it on your wall - no need to buy any additional accessories.

  • Can my frame sit on a table?

It sure can! If you'd like your frame to sit on a table, and it's smaller than 13" x 19", you can grab an EaselMate from our Accessories page. EaselMate works on all of our Wood and Metal frames, as long as they don't exceed that size.

  • Do I need to buy any accessories?

Nope! Each of our frames comes with everything you need to hang it on the wall. You may want to take a peek at our Accessories page though, in case a useful add-on catches your eye. That's also where we sell replacement components for frames you already have (in case you want to switch out a mat color, need replacement acrylic, etc.).

  • Can I order samples?

Any piece of our frames can be ordered individually from our Accessories page. Simply order the item you're looking for a sample of in a small size (for example, a 5" x 5" swatch of matboard). Please note that while the cost of shipping may seem rather high for a small sample, we do not profit off of shipping and only charge you what it costs us to securely pack and ship your item(s).

  • Can I order individual parts of frames?

Yes, our Accessories page sells all of the individual parts of our frames. A few things to keep in mind:

    • If you are ordering a "Frame Only," be sure to still enter the size of your art as the "Inside Width and Height."
    • "Cover" and "Backing" options should also be ordered at the same size as your art for an ideal fit.
    • Your frame will still need a "Cover" and "Backing" to work properly (whether you order them from us or already have them).
    • All of our frame styles overlap their contents by 1/4". This is to hold the art work and frame materials in place, and prevents them from “falling through” the frame. Please account for this when ordering individual parts of frames.

If you're confused or have any questions about this, don't hesitate to reach out to us!

  • I need to compare old frame profile numbers to their new names.

We’ve updated our profile names to be more easily identifiable when designing and reordering frames. But, for those who have ordered with us in the past, we understand that the change can be confusing.

Here, we’ve compiled a list of what the styles used to be called and what to look for when ordering now:

Measurements

  • How do I measure my art?
    Watch a video!

    Measure like this

Measure each side of your artwork from edge to opposite edge. The "width" is left-to-right, and "height" is top-to-bottom. Make sure to use the correct "width" and "height" so we build your frame in the correct orientation! (We strongly advise use of a standard, rigid tape measure.)

The yellow area is the 1/4" which will end up covered by the frame or matboard. If you have important details (such as a signature) on the very edge of your artwork, please reach out to us with a photo of it so we can help!

  • How do I choose the frame’s orientation?

Our frames are built with your "Width" measurement as "left to right" and your "Height" measurement as "top to bottom".

Our frame preview takes the "Width" and "Height" you specify, and shows you exactly what your frame will look like on the wall. If you need your frame to hang in the opposite orientation than the one you see in the preview, simply switch the "Width" and "Height" measurements.

For example, a 24" x 36" frame would hang in the portrait orientation, but a 36" x 24" frame would hang in the landscape orientation.

  • How thick can my artwork be?

Our Metal frames have room for artwork up to 1/4" thick. This includes matting, so if your frame has a single mat the artwork shouldn't exceed 3/16" thick and if it is double matted the artwork shouldn't exceed 1/8" thick. The spring clips that hold your art into the frame will adjust perfectly as long as your art doesn't exceed this thickness.

Our Wood frames have room for artwork up to 1/8" thick if they have no mats or one mat, and up to 1/16" if they have two mats.

  • My art has important details near the edge.

Whether you get a frame with or without a mat, we will cut the frame such that the artwork size you provided is covered by 1/4" on each side. This is so that the art doesn't "fall through" the matting, or in the case of a frame without matting, show white borders around the art.

If you have artwork with important details (such as an artist signature, or visually important detail) around the outer edge that you don't want to cover, the best you can do is give our website an artwork size that is 1/4" larger in each dimension than your art. So for example, if your art was 10" x 10", you would use an art size of 10 1/4" x 10 1/4". This way, we'll send you a frame that only covers the artwork by 1/8" on each side, which is the smallest overlap possible without the artwork revealing the backing behind it on at least one side, or "falling through" the mat opening.

Videos & Instructions

  • Wood frame assembly

    Step 1

Step 1: Bend back the metal tabs holding the frame contents in place. Take care in doing so, as these may be sharp.

    Step 2

Step 2: Remove the frame contents and insert your artwork. Add corner bumpers between frame and wall.

    Step 3

Step 3: Replace frame contents and bend tabs back in. Loop the hanging wire around itself.

  • Metal frame assembly

    Caution!
The corners of our metal frames are carefully mitered to achieve a perfect fit and finish.
Their edges are sharp, and should be handled carefully.

    Step 1

Step 1: Drop hanging wire brackets into place and tighten their screws. Loosen two bottom screws shown.

    Step 2

Step 2: Remove bottom rail, and slide frame contents out. Install your art, replace contents, tighten screws.

    Step 3

Step 3: Insert spring clips spaced evenly between the backing and the channel it rests in. Put one wall bumper on each corner.

  • Secure hanging hardware

Check out our full instructions for using secure hanging hardware here.

  • What is support wire?

For frames 36" and larger, a support wire is included.

The support wire (labeled as such) will run from the top to the bottom of the frame to keep it stable. The tension from the support wire and the metal brackets keep the frame from warping over time. Please note you are not meant to hang your frame from a support wire.

    Support Wire vs. Hanging Wire

    • Hanging Wire (metal frame): Holds your frame to the hook on the wall. It should be taut in between both Euro Hangers, and it should be placed on a hook until the frame looks even.
    • Hanging Wire (wood frame): Used for wood frames is the same as the wire used for metal frames. The hanging wire comes pre-attached to the D-Rings, with one side untethered so you can easily remove the backing of your frame and place your artwork into it.
    • Support Wire (metal and wood): The support wire is for larger-sized frames, both wood, and metal. It is meant to prevent the frame from bowing and warping over time, and it is recommended that the support wire not be removed.
    • Support Wire (metal): Unlike the hanging wire, the support wire is applied diagonally across our metal frames.
      Support Wire (Metal)
    • Support Wire (wood): The support wire is applied from the middle of the top of the frame to the middle of the bottom of the frame.
      Support Wire (Wood)
  • Preparing your acrylic

    Peeling protective film from acrylic

Our covers have protective film on both sides - use a fingernail to peel up the corners and pull to remove the film before assembling your frame. Don't forget that there will be two protective films per cover - one on each side!

For non-glare covers only, when assembling your frame make sure that the shiny side is facing towards your artwork and the non-glare side is facing away from your artwork.

  • Fixing uneven corners
    Misaligned frame rails

    1. Your frame corners may have come loose during shipping, but don’t worry! There is an easy fix.

Adjust frame rails to fit together

    2. Locate the metal brackets on the back of your frame near the gap and loosen the screws. Push the two sides of the frame together and re-tighten the screws.

    Properly aligned frame rails

    3. Your frame corners should be perfectly aligned!

For Business

  • What is white-labeling?

Our white labeling service lets you use Frame It Easy to fulfill orders for your customers. Here's what happens when you select the free white labeling option at checkout:

    Clean, no-branding packing slip

There will be no trace of Frame It Easy on the frame, any of its pieces, the packing slip, or the box. Instead, we'll print your company name if you provided one, or a blank space otherwise.

    Product label without any branding

In the rare case the recipient has an issue with their order, they will contact you about it. You can of course reach out to us on their behalf and we'll be happy to help!

This service helps artists, photographers, marketers, and other creative professionals focus on your craft instead of on the logistics of printing and framing.

  • Do you offer bulk or volume discounts?

Every single frame that we ship is cut to your exact specifications and assembled by hand after you place your order - nothing is "standard" sized or pulled off of a shelf, so there is no savings for us to pass on when a large order is placed because we are still custom-crafting every single frame.

We do however custom-box every order and charge shipping at our cost, which is a substantial savings to all customers but especially ones that order in large volume.

The one exception to this is if you are thinking about placing a very large volume order of identically sized frames, there may be some production-related savings we can pass on to you - reach out to us if this is the case!

  • Can you dropship?

Yes! We offer a complete print & frame dropship solution for a variety of artists/merchants, including our very own Shopify app.

Learn more about our service and options here.

Shipping

  • How long will it take to get to me?

Your order will be crafted in 1-3 business days before being shipped. As soon as it’s shipped, we send you an email with tracking information so you know exactly when it'll arrive. The map below shows how long our shipping carriers usually take to deliver an order once it's shipped (they occasionally take an extra day or so).

    Shipping Map

  • Can you rush my order?

Unfortunately we can't, but reach out to us if you have a deadline in mind and we'll help you figure out whether your order can arrive on time.

There are two reasons we can't offer expedited shipping at this time. One is that it takes us 1 to 3 business days to custom-craft your order before it is shipped, so shipping it overnight after that still wouldn't feel "overnight" as it would arrive several days later. However, it would still be billed at a huge premium from our carriers - we don't profit from shipping at all (it's billed at our cost) but even with the discounts our shipping carriers extend to us, shipping a frame overnight or 2-day is usually very expensive.

If you have any questions about this, we're happy to talk it out with you - contact us and we'll be able to help!

  • Can I ship this as a gift?

You sure can! Make sure to fill out your billing information correctly, but put whoever you want (friend, family member) as the shipping address. Our shipping carriers can easily deliver your order there. We include a packing slip in each box that details its contents, but it doesn't list what you paid for the order (just like a gift receipt).

  • Do you ship outside the USA?

We are able to ship outside of the USA only to our military APO/FPO/DPO addresses.

My Order

  • My uploaded file doesn’t look right!

The most important thing to know here is that while every screen on every computer, tablet, and phone will show the same image slightly differently, when we print we go directly from your file to the paper (using top-of-the-line printers, ink, and paper, of course). We don't apply any changes or conversions of any sort in order to stay as true to the file you uploaded as possible. You should still be really happy with the finished product, and if we think you won't be, we'll contact you before printing it.

For our technical customers: the most likely cause of this is that your file is a JPG in the print-ready CMYK color space, but your web browser is rendering it in RGB. If it appears correctly when opening the same file in your favorite graphical editor, then you can be assured we'll receive it and print it in that color space. If you have any questions about this, please reach out to us and we'd be happy to help!

  • I made a mistake or need to adjust my order.

Please contact us and let us know as quickly as possible! We'll work with you as much as we can.

  • There is an issue with my order.

Please reach out to us! We stand behind the quality and workmanship of our frames 100% and will make it right at no cost to you if we've made a mistake.

  • What’s your return policy?

You can return your order for any reason. Please see our Return Policy for all the details.

That being said, if it's something wrong with your order or something you don't like, we'd love a chance to make you happy. Just contact us and let us know what's going on! We don't want any of our customers to be unhappy for any reason.

  • The acrylic is scratched/foggy.

We ship our covers with two tough protective films - one on each side! It's this film's job to get scuffed and scratched so that when you take it off, your cover will look perfect! Please make sure that you've removed both films - one from each side. You can easily peel up the corners of the film with a fingernail or piece of tape.

If there's still an issue with your cover, don't worry - just reach out to us with some photos of the problem and we'll be able to help. We stand behind the quality and workmanship of our frames 100%.

  • It’s the best!

We're so glad you like it! We'd love to hear from you - reach out to us via email or your favorite social network.

We'd also be honored if you told your friends or family about the great experience you've had with us - this is what we've chosen to build our business around. We think if we're able to provide an unbelievable quality frame at an unbeatable price, and really take care of our customers, that they'll trust us with their referrals and help us grow!
